Literacy

At St Joseph’s we aim to develop the children’s competency in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

We believe that the acquisition of skills in these four areas is vital to all other learning and through these skills students can be assured of opportunities offered by society.

Each class devotes time to explicitly teaching of English skills and knowledge. Students are encouraged to:

  • Experience and enjoy a broad range of literature
  • Reflect on literature
  • Participate in activities in order to enhance their spelling skills
  • Read, write, listen and speak for various purposes and audiences.
  • St Joseph’s in conjunction with DOSCEL staff and expert practitioners, to ensure that the most up-to date and effective English teaching practices are implemented.
